My name's Anita Wirawan and I love stories :).

I read/watch a lot of stories and like to share the most interesting and unusual ones here to see what everyone else thinks about them.

    Why
I had originally started this blog as a way to get things together after my brother Jody died back in 2008, but it's turned into a lot more than that.

I hope you'll find the stories that you need here.

    What Next
Feel free to look around the blog and add your own thoughts or stories, I'd love to hear 'em.

Kinamand, A Love Story

Floating Through Life

Netflix, I love it because it lets me see all kinds of movies that I’d never have come across otherwise, especially independent films.

One of my favorite indy finds so far has been Kinamand, a film from Denmark that’s an unusual sort of love story. The main character Keld is a plumber who just floats through life in a constant state of numbness, letting all his problems pile up no matter what the consequences. His wife continually tries to wake him from his stupor but eventually gives up and divorces him, demanding a large sum of money in the settlement.

The Proposition

Forced to finally make some changes Keld sells all the things in his apartment and starts eating every meal at a neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The restaurant serves only a few dishes and he works his way through the menu each week.

Once again he starts to fall into the numbness of routine until the restaurant owner Feng makes a shocking proposition: marry his sister so that she can get a green card. In exchange, Feng will pay enough money to cover the divorce settlement.

Keld agrees to the scheme but soon starts to suspect that there’s something very wrong about Feng’s sister that the whole family is hiding…

Keld’s Story

I thought this movie was really good. I love how the story of Keld and the other characters was told, in an engaging and honest way with a little bit of humor always right under the surface.

The storytelling had a depth that you just don’t get with a lot of the cookie cutter type movies that are out there right now and that’s something I very much appreciate ’cause I get super impatient with crappy movies!

I saw this movie on Netflix instant streaming, but you can rent the DVD from them too (Amazon sells the DVD but fyi it can’t be played in US DVD players). Anyway check this one out if you like indys or solid storytelling, you’re sure to be happy with it :).

I Loved that movie. When we first got it I was definately skeptical, but once we began watching it I was sure I would like it.

I love the way you wrote this blog, you did really good at describing the movie and pulling me back into it without giving away the whole movie.
