Today in 1992 At&T released the Videophone 2500, the first phone that could transmit full color video over regular phone lines.
At&T hoped that even though the the phone cost $1,500 that the fact it could be used with regular phone lines would make it catch on with the average household.
They envisioned families crowding around the phone’s tiny screen and holding happy conversations with each other, as you can see in this ad they put out:
