I never looked at it that way. That makes perfect sense. Now I understand why you were saying that Frodo was kind of a flat character. I never really paid much attention to the character, and usually simply focused on the story line. Now I realize that the character IS the story line….

Yeah luckily all the characters surrounding Frodo were very complex and interesting so that it made up for him being so flat. But still, imagine how much better LOTR would have been if Frodo had more depth.
Maybe Tolkien did it on purpose for some reason I don’t understand right now, as far as I can tell he sure wasn’t the type to keep things simple when it came to stories lol.
