Just imagine how flat Star Wars would have been if George Lucas would have kept Darth Vader’s um, let’s just say not so intimidating original voice:
Another interesting part of this story is that the actor that played Darth Vader didn’t know that his voice was going to be overdubbed with someone else’s.
According to him he didn’t find out about it until two weeks after Star Wars came out when someone sent him a message saying “Congratulations, you’re in the biggest movie of all time, by the way, did you know they’d overdubbed your voice?”
Wow, that must have been a bit of a shock lol, I wonder why Lucas chose not to tell him. I had never thought about it before but James Earl Jones’ dramatic voicing of Darth Vader is one of the things that made the Star Wars series truly awesome. It’s interesting that a voice is the only thing that stood between Darth Vader being a menacing character, symbol of the evil Galactic Empire which was grinding the Rebel Alliance down …or just some guy in a funny costume.
