    Who
My name's Anita Wirawan and I love stories :).

I read/watch a lot of stories and like to share the most interesting and unusual ones here to see what everyone else thinks about them.

    Why
I had originally started this blog as a way to get things together after my brother Jody died back in 2008, but it's turned into a lot more than that.

I hope you'll find the stories that you need here.

    What Next
Feel free to look around the blog and add your own thoughts or stories, I'd love to hear 'em.

She Had Blue Skin And So Did He

This poem by Shel Silverstein tells a story about two people with blue skin, not exactly a common thing. But really it’s a story about a lot of people out there, maybe even you…A picture representing the poem Masks by Shel Silverstein, with a boy and a girl each carrying giant unwieldy masks.

MASKS

She had blue skin,
And so did he.
He kept it hid
And so did she.
They searched for blue
Their whole life through,
Then passed right by—
And never knew.

Published after Silverstein’s death in a collection called Every Thing On It this poem stands out to me because it uses simple language and storytelling to address a complex problem that affects young and old alike.

Whether you’re a kid in grade school or an office worker about to hit retirement, chances are you struggle at least occasionally with your own personal version of ‘blue skin’.

I really love this poem. Sometimes I find myself coming back to your blog just to read it. It really speaks to me on a deeper level then most poems do.

It is interesting though, it seems your blog is helping me to realize this love for poetry that I never realized I had.

    Love ya,
    Jenn

      Hi Honey,

I’m glad you like this poem so much and it’s really cool that you put it up in your office :). I think this particular poem is a good example of the deep poetry and storytelling skills of Shel Silverstein, he just had a way of telling stories that really connect with people no matter where they are in life, what age, etc. And he makes it look so easy, which of course it’s anything but.

I’m pretty excited that you have a love of poetry, hopefully we can find more that you like!

      Love,
      Anita
