Yes that was quite the plot twist wasn’t it?

I always thought it was funny (and telling) that Luke’s reaction was relatively ‘meh’ when his hand got chopped off but he totally lost his shit after finding out Darth Vader was his father.

Not that I blame him though, what a crushing disillusionment to have your father go from exalted Jedi hero to wheezy Imperial bad guy in a matter of seconds, all while hanging over a thousand foot drop to nowhere.

Obi-Wan was all ‘Uuuse the force’ and ‘Gooo to Dagobah’ but he couldn’t work in a little ‘Your faather is Vader’ or something? Just sayin.

I’m guessing most of us shared in Luke’s anguish and shock when first finding out the unhappy news, though for me I was pretty young at the time and can’t remember that moment exactly. If only someone had been recording my reaction like the guy who made the following video did with his son and daughter :P. Check out all the different reactions in the boy’s face after he hears the line ‘No, I am your father’…

Do you remember what your reaction was and can you relate to what this boy was feeling after hearing about Darth Vader being Luke’s father?

And like many Hoarders episodes these days it includes a surprise pile of poo, though I guess in this case at least it’s only digital poo.

Here’s a nice little animation of the poem ‘The Country’ by Billy Collins.

Set to audio of the author himself, the animation plays out the story of why you shouldn’t leave matches out in this certain house in the country…

I like how the animation was done in this one, little touches like the fire blazing a dance in the eye of the mouse really brings the spirit of the poem to life.

What strikes me about the poem itself is how I’m left wondering exactly who this person with the pyro-mice story is. Did they tell Collins the story as a joke or were they someone kind of crazy who actually believed that mice would snatch matches and torch the house?

I lean more towards the person being a little mentally unsound, mostly based on the title ‘The Country’.

As in maybe the person lived in the country too long and the isolation affected them negatively. Seperated from neighbors and friends by the great distance and with nobody to talk to over the years their mind got twisted by the sound of mice scratching in the walls that echoed through the empty house.

Well that’s my theory anyway, what do you think?

No really, there was literally someone behind David Bowie during those crystal ball scenes in Labyrinth.

We all know that Bowie is a talented guy but one thing that he can’t do is the type of juggling that was required for those scenes, something called ‘contact juggling’.

To do the contact juggling the producers of the movie brought in Michael Moschen, who is a world famous juggler. He had the extremely uncomfortable job of <del datetime="2012-02-09T00:04:12+00:00">manipulating David Bowie’s balls</del> having to jam himself behind Bowie and pretend to be the arms of Bowie’s character, the Goblin King.

To make things worse he had to do it all blind. He had to stay out of the camera shot, which meant that even getting a small glimpse of the crystal balls was out of the question.

I saw some behind the scenes footage of these scenes being filmed and let’s just say that there were a lot of crystal balls crashing to the ground lol. There was a guy off to the side ready with a box of crystal balls to hand to Moschen.

Michael Moschen looked totally miserable during these scenes, even to the point of looking pissed off at some points. I can’t say I blame him. David Bowie however was very calm and patient and even seemed to get a kick out of how bizarre the whole setup was.

Hats off to Michael Moschen who had to do a very difficult job and pulled it off nicely. In case you haven’t seen it or don’t remember here’s a clip of one of the crystal ball juggling scenes in Labyrinth. Just imagine that crammed behind David Bowie is a very grumpy Michael Moschen:

Here’s a cool little mini-movie that I came across the other day. It’s called The Passenger and it tells the story of a little alien-looking guy who has a problem:

Every time he tries to walk past the fence of a certain house a crazy rabid dog starts to bark like crazy, snapping his teeth and pushing on a loose board in the fence to try and attack.

His only option is to go the long way around it all by taking the bus. That is until one day someone leaves a plastic bag with a goldfish in it on the seat next to him.

This isn’t an ordinary goldfish though, it has a secret…

I thought The Passenger was a great bit of storytelling, not to mention animation work, and was very happy to have come across it on YouTube. I really liked how all the comedy was done in this video, especially when the main character was in the bus.

The opening of the umbrella, how he was still smacking the bag even after the fish went back to normal, the plugging and unplugging of the headphones, etc. None of these were revolutionary sequences to the art of comedy but they were executed perfectly and had me laughing the whole time. Oh and as for the bus driver he must be the most oblivious bus driver ever lol.

What do you think, did you like it? Y/N?

In this clip from the extended edition of Return Of The King a really nasty character called The Mouth Of Sauron meets with Gandalf and a few others to try and convince them to surrender.

Once you see him this isn’t a character that you’ll soon forget and that’s for one big reason, his mouth is just… well you’ll see:

So there’s actually a story behind why The Mouth Of Sauron’s mouth is the way it is.

It’s not some terrible disease that he caught or some kind of weird injury that made his mouth like that, it was words.

He was a servant of Sauron for hundreds of years (so long that he’d even forgotten his own name) and seems to have mostly worked in a spokesperson and propaganda messenger type role.

The Mouth Of Sauron spoke so much evil during his service to Sauron that his mouth became horribly disfigured and nasty.

And that my friends is why you should always say nice things ;).

This video tells a funny story about a situation that unfortunately many on Facebook know all too well.

A guy accepts a friend request from someone he had reservations about, just to be polite. Bad idea.

Moral of the story: creepers gonna creep, don’t accept their friend requests.

Anybody reading this ever have an online creeper? I had one, though it wasn’t on Facebook. I had specifically stopped talking to this person because I realized he was the creeper type (amongst other things) and made it extremely obvious that we were never to have even a speck of contact again.

Then years later a message arrives in my inbox saying someone had written me on a certain obscure social network. It was the creeper.

It was jarring to see, as there was no way that he could have even found my profile on this particular site unless he’d done some serious creeping.

The message? Totally bizarre. He did not use his own name but a pseudonym and talked ‘hypothetically’ about ‘could things be forgiven’ if a certain situation had happened. What situation? It sounded suspiciously similar to the situation involving him of course. HELL NO CREEPER!

I did what’s usually the best thing to do with creepers like that, just ignored him. He wrote another message a while later, an anonymous one this time, trying to strike up a conversation but I seen through it in an instant. I knew it was the creeper.

He eventually faded away but this song reminded me of that whole thing. Creepa!

But in this video a storytelling duo called Eth-Noh-Tec sums things up nicely in a story of HELL ON EARTH MUAHAHAHAHAHA…okay maybe it’s not that intense lol but it’s good though, you’ll see…

I really like how Eth-Noh-Tec did this one, their storytelling is on point and they do it with humor and style. Came across this video by accident a while back via a Google Alert for, well I can’t remember what but I was pleasantly surprised. Wish I could come across more good storytelling videos like this randomly, I need a StumbleUpon for storytelling stuff!

I love recut movie trailers but I have to admit that there are some really lame attempts out there. Simply shifting some clips around and then adding dramatic music doesn’t make it a good recut trailer, but some people don’t quite get this.

What makes a recut trailer awesome is the retelling of the storyline in a way that twists the feeling of the original movie, extra points if it makes you laugh.

Scary Mary Poppins is still the best recut trailer that I’ve come across (it helps that Mary Poppins has a surprisingly large number of creepy/scary shots in it, who knew?) but this one redoing Home Alone is another favorite of mine.

This video tells the story of Kevin, a psychotic child who endures repeated rejections by his family and finally snaps during the holidays.

He decides to fulfill his own vengeful Christmas wishes by killing his family and the people in his neighborhood one by one…

What did you think, is this a good recut trailer or did it fall flat for you?

Wasn’t sure what to expect from this one when I saw that it was a nine minute beat poem.

Yes it is an animated poem and I tend to love those but on the other hand I’ve heard a lot of beat poetry that …how can I say this… makes me want to claw at my ears, so I kind of braced myself when I pushed the play button lol.

Storm turned out to be excellent though, both the poem itself as well as the animation.

Written by Tim Minchin it tells the story of how he went to a dinner party one night and was confronted with someone so outrageously ignorant that try as he might he couldn’t stop himself from calling her out, even though it would make the whole dinner party incredibly awkward…
