Rise Of The Shadow People: Visits From The Faceless Shadows

Shadow People True Story DrawingReports of sightings of tall, faceless, shadowy figures have been increasing over the last decade.

These beings are known simply as ‘Shadow People’.

Everyone has woken up with the strange feeling that the was someone or something in the room with them that shouldn’t be there.

But for some people, they are actually able to see what it is…

THE SHADOWS

You are lying in your bed and look at your bedroom door. Huh, that’s strange, the bedroom door is open but you clearly remember closing it before crawling under the covers.

And was that light on down the hall too?

Suddenly you snap awake. You had been dreaming.

But that dream has given you an eerie feeling so you go to sit up and take a look at the bedroom door to see if it’s actually open or not.

With ice running through your veins you realize that you can’t move your body. Arms, legs, even your head can’t move. Only your eyes are able to dart around in a panic to try and look around you.

Shadow Person standing by bed HatmanYou have heard about this before: it’s sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a condition where your mind wakes up from sleeping but your body is still locked in it’s paralyzed dreaming mode.

As you search your mind to try and remember how to get out of sleep paralysis, the hair on your arms stands up. You realize that there is a presence in the room with you. You sense that someone or something is standing there at the foot of your bed.

You try to scream but of course your jaw is locked in place, paralyzed like the rest of you.

Then a figure moves into your view and your eyes go wide. It’s an dark shadow figure, tall and looming over the side of your bed.

The figure is inky black, you can’t make out any features at all or even eyes. But you can FEEL it looking at you. It’s watching. What does it want? You can’t run away and you can’t even say a word.

It seems that the more your fear rises the closer the shadow figure seems to get. Now you notice that it is slowly stretching it’s arm towards the middle of your chest. You panic and try to do something to wake your body up. If you could only move away or scream for help, something.

Your mind becomes more and more frantic as the arm gets closer.

Then suddenly you are able to take in a deep breath through your mouth and let out a yell. You sit up in bed and the shadow person floats backwards, eventually going through the wall.

You can’t believe your eyes. Surely that all had to be some kind of twisted waking dream, right?

But what you don’t know yet is that this was only the beginning.

WHAT ARE THE SHADOW PEOPLE?

Drawing True Story Shadow People visitThe above story is a combination of the many accounts of people being visited by Shadow People that I read while doing research for this post.

Usually the Shadow Person seems to have been watching as you slept. And as you wake up and fear takes hold, the Shadow Person seems to get closer and start ‘feeding’ on the fear.

In fact it’s a common belief that Shadow People appear in your life because the Shadow People gain strength from your fear.

But as you have more and more of these kinds of encounters and their fear level rises, Shadow People will start to appear throughout the day. Mostly they will be seen from the corner of a person’s eye, but sometimes also as shadows running across the room or dipping in and out of walls.

You get the sense that you are never actually alone, there is always something lurking and waiting.

Sightings of Shadow People have been on the rise in recent years, no one knows why this is exactly. But everyone seems to have their own pet theory as to what the Shadow People actually are.

Ghosts, demons, alien beings in disguise, interdimensional echoes, time travelers. Even the famous physicist Stephen Hawking weighed in on the issue:

“There could be shadow galaxies, shadow stars and even shadow people.”

–Stephen Hawking

It’s the haunting mystery of it all, the realization that Shadow People can’t be pinned down as one particular thing or another that makes them so terrifying.

That and the stories.

SHADOW PEOPLE STORIES

When someone has an experience with a Shadow Person (or worse, a group of Shadow People) they tend to seek out information about Shadow People to try and understand what’s happening to them.

They wonder: Am I crazy? Are Shadow People real? What do Shadow People want? What can I do to stop seeing them?

Slender Man Shadow People storiesThis search puts them into contact with other people’s stories about Shadow People and soon they can’t stop reading. But the problem is the stories often range from eerie to downright terrifying. This increases a person’s fear level and provides more fear for the Shadow People in their life to feed on.

It reminds me of the ‘Slender Sickness’ some people experience after researching Slender Man too much.

Slender Man is similar to the Shadow People in that he is a tall, faceless figure that lurks in the shadows and feeds off of people’s fear.

Victims of Slender Sickness will actually start experiencing physical symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and piercing headaches. Not to mention the biggest symptom of all …seeing Slender Man lurking in every shadow.

But where those visited by Slender Man experiences can comfort themselves a bit by telling themselves he was a character created to scare people, when it comes to those visited by Shadow People there is no such comfort.

In fact reports of visits by Shadow People stretch back as far as human memory, being called by different names in different places.

Think it can’t happen to you? Be careful. One day you might wake up in the dark and as your eyes start to adjust to the darkness it could reveal a Shadow Person standing in the corner of your room, watching.

Or worse, standing next to your bed.

Okay that’s it, I’m never sleeping again. I think I’m just going to stay up and read scary stories about Shadow People. Good plan, right?

Seriously though have you ever had an encounter with a Shadow Person? Tell your story in the comments below …for those who will dare to read it!

The Mysterious Woman Who Bought Candy: An Ancient Japanese Ghost Story

Candy Buying Ghost WomanWhen confronted with the mysterious are you the type of person who wants to find out more, or run away?

Not everyone is brave enough to come face to face with the unknown. In this ancient story from Japan a man does just that, and is shocked by what he finds…

THE CANDY SHOP

The candy shop owner had been doing the same routine for almost forty years.

Like every other evening, after the sky got dark he closed the heavy wooden door and began to sweep. It was a relaxing chore, something to clear his mind before he went home to his family.

But that night three loud knocks broke the solitude of his sweeping. His heart nearly stopped from the fright of it and he ended up standing there with broom in hand, staring at the door.

After a short pause the knocks continued, but this time louder and more frantic sounding. Who could it be that needed candy so badly at this time of night?

Ghost Story Candy Shop JapanCuriosity won out over his fear and the man walked over and ever so slowly opened the door.

Standing there was a frail looking woman dressed in a simple, but beautiful white dress. Her hair, though, was a tattered mess.

She moved her palm towards him to show a small coin. “Please,” she said in a strained voice, “I have this and I need a piece of candy.”

He could plainly see that the coin was not worth much. Most candy shop owners would laugh in her face and tell her to come back with a proper amount of money. But he found it hard not to take pity on her.

He broke off a chunk of candy and handed it to her, trading the candy for the coin.

The woman cradled the candy in her hand like it was the most precious thing in the world, and ran off without saying another word.

A strange encounter no doubt about it,” he mumbled to himself under his breath. On the way home he couldn’t help but ponder over what had happened. But in the end he dismissed it from his mind as another mystery that couldn’t be solved.

Or so he thought.

THE MYSTERIOUS WOMAN

The next night when the candy shop owner opened the door to go home he nearly jumped out of his skin. Standing there on the other side of the door was the woman in white, with the same frazzled hair as the night before.

She was holding another small coin in her hand.

“Please, may I buy another bit of candy?”

“Why, y-y-yes,” he replied and broke off another piece of candy for her. She took it and ran off through the open door without another word.

At this point he wanted to follow her and see what this was all about. But stepping outside of the door he could see that the path she took through the trees was dark. The leaves rustled in an eerie way.

Scary Dark Night Moonlight Ghost StoryInstead he walked home to his comfortable, well-lit house.

Yes, she showed up the next night, and the next. All after dark, all after the wooden door was closed. The man began counting the number of times she showed up. One, two, three, four, five.

But on the sixth night the woman said something different. She explained this would be the last time she would come to the candy shop.

When hearing this a million questions popped up into the man’s head. But looking at the mysterious woman he found that none of his questions could quite make it out of his mouth.

And when she got the candy and ran out the door for the last time, he kicked himself for not asking her even a single question.

He hesitated a moment, but he couldn’t leave the mystery as it was. He quietly locked the door behind him and followed the woman at a distance down the path, which was dimly lit by the moon.

THE GRAVEYARD

The man followed her through a winding path in the woods. When she emerged from the trees he could see that they had come upon the edge of a graveyard.

She went into the graveyard and stopped at a particular grave.

The man could barely force his feet to follow. He hid behind a bush and willed his teeth to stop chattering. But it was too late.

The woman turned around and looked directly at him, it was like an arrow had been sent straight through his body.

Candy Buying Ghost In GraveyardThey locked eyes and a few seconds later the woman vanished into thin air.

The man sat frozen for a long time, just him and his chattering teeth. Finally he couldn’t stand it anymore and his curiosity won out over the fear.

He walked over to the grave and had a look around, but there was nothing.

The name on the headstone was not familiar in any way, and there was no sign of the woman anywhere. Her footprints stopped right at the grave.

Suddenly he had a sinking feeling. He was all alone …in a graveyard. His courage was starting to drain out of him and he wished he was back in his warm, comfortable shop.

Then he heard a noise —it was the cry of a baby, a muffled cry.

He could hardly believe it but the cry seemed to be coming from the dirt underneath his feet!

Not caring about fear or courage anymore, he ran as fast as he could to a building at the far edge of the graveyard. It was a Buddhist monastery, which was responsible for the care of the graveyard.

Pounding on the door, he explained to the head monk that there is a live baby buried in the cemetery.

A group of monks came out with the man to the grave site and dug up the grave. There they found a crying baby, clutching candy in his hand.

SIX COINS

The head monk turned to the man and said that he remembered the recent burial of a woman who had died while pregnant. She miraculously must have given birth after being buried.

Son of Candy Buying Ghost

It was a custom back then that when a loved one died, you would bury them with six coins to pay for their soul’s passage into the afterlife. The ghost of the woman had used these coins to buy bits of candy for her baby to suck on, so that he could stay alive.

The head monk spoke gently to the corpse of the woman, explaining that he would take care of the baby now and that she didn’t have to worry anymore.

The candy store owner took six coins out of his pocket and laid them on the woman’s heart. In the years afterward he would visit her grave regularly, and leave sweets.

As for the baby, he grew up in the monastery and became a monk of high standing, never forgetting the love of his mother…that extended even after her death.

Other Beings Walking With Slender Man: Slender Man Sighting Question From Zulaikha

Picture of Slende Man sighting in woods

“I 100% believe in slenderman. I have seen him roaming in the woods. But the weird thing was that there was 2 more ppl

well girls.1 was young but scary the other looked like granny from that horror game.

PLZ let me know what this is I am seeing NEVER GO IN THE WOODS ALONE”

-question left by reader Zulaikha on the ‘Is Slender Man Real?’ story

Hi Zulaikha,

I decided to answer this in a post because I think other people might be having the same kind of problems as you are with Slender Man.

Okay so first off Slender Man is something that’s a projection of a person’s mind. And when you “see” Slender Man it is because the fears in your mind are making the things you see in the world look like him.

A deep shadow in the road outside your house? Suddenly you see the tall form of Slender Man standing there, watching you. Hazy movement far off in the woods? Slender Man is walking at a distance, stalking.

This is because of how the character of Slender Man is written and how the stories are set up, it sticks in your mind and can change to fit any situation if you focus on it.

Slender Man sighting questionSo I think that when you see these other beings, the scary girl and the horror game granny, walking along with Slender Man then you are seeing beings that have meaning in your mind personally. Since they are walking with Slender Man then they are probably occupying the same fear section in your mind as Slender Man.

The danger of “seeing” Slender Man in real life is that the paranoia about him can quickly snowball into a huge problem. Soon you are seeing him everywhere, and for you specifically the problem might be worse because you might start seeing the scary girl and the horror game granny as well.

I would recommend that you make a point of focusing on things that bring out positive images in your mind. Maybe there is a sport that you can really get into or a kind of music that lifts your spirits and puts you in a positive frame of mind. Seek out stories that deal with adventure and lose yourself in those story worlds.

You are right about one thing though, you shouldn’t go into the woods alone. Since it is a fearful thing for you if you are in the woods alone it’s a lot easier to get paranoid and start “seeing” Slender Man and his companions. Go into the woods only with friends or just stay home and read some adventure stories.

Anyway, hope this helps! If you have more questions or comments just write them in the comment section below and I’ll answer.

xo,
Anita
